The best part of moving into a new apartment is turning each room into your own space. Finding the right balance of comfort, functionality, and organization is part of the fun – but can also be a bit daunting with everything you need to consider. We’ve gathered some of our favourite tips to help you maximize each space and get the most out of your home!
Looking Up
Storage can sometimes be tricky in an apartment, but we often forget to look upwards when thinking about where to put things. Vertical storage solutions (tall shelf units, open shelving in closets/other spaces) can really help you get the most out of your floor plan without taking up valuable real estate. Bonus if you can find storage units that double as workspaces like a table or desk!
Tables
Speaking of tables, think about the space under your kitchen/dining room table… what if it could be put to better use? Instead of a traditional table, consider something that has a tabletop surface, with storage underneath (like a large trunk)! Having another option for storage space is always a bonus and these pieces often bring character and warmth to your dining area.
Light & Mirrors
Natural light and mirrors can work incredible magic when it comes to how your space feels. While neither will actually provide you with more usable space, they do wonders to make spaces appear larger and more inviting. Do everything you can to get as much natural light into your space, and make smart use of reflective surfaces to enhance this effect.
Use & Versatility
When it comes to your possessions, a great practice that will help you save space is to consider the size, versatility, and applications of the things you own. Take that 14-piece cookware set you’ve been looking at, for example. If you’re ultimately only using the same 2 or 3 pieces for your day-to-day needs, a more practical approach is only to buy what you will actually use. Not only is this a good habit to get into for your home storage, but it’s also great for your consumption footprint!
Hopefully, these tips will give you some new ideas in your journey to the perfect home space. Happy hunting!
